A lit¤tle child and weaned,
Up¤on its moth¤er’s knee,
A lov¤ing moth¤er’s mind and will,
Is all it needs to see.

How peace¤ful¤ly it rests,
That ten¤der lov¤ing child,
The si¤lent tears of pleas¤ure fall,
To see it rec¤on¤ciled.

O, soul of mine be still,
And learn this les¤son well;
The souls thus weaned and qui¤et¤ened
In peace with Je¤sus dwell.

With¤in the heart re¤signed,
God shall His will re¤veal
O’er thy whole be¤ing thou shalt find,
The peace of Heav¤en steal.

God claims the right di¤vine,
To mould and form the will:
Un¤til its chief de¤light shall be,
His pleas¤ure to ful¤fill.
