Lord God of Hosts, have mer¤cy on Thy peo¤ple,
Know Thou that we are fal¤t’ring, weak and frail,
Ruth¤less and fierce the might¤y powers of dark¤ness,
A¤part from Thee we nev¤er can pre¤vail.

Re¤mem¤ber Him who loved, and for us suf¤fered,
Bear¤ing our sins up¤on the cru¤el tree,

Wor¤thy the Lamb, who now is in¤ter¤ced¤ing,
Thou know¤est, Lord, we bear His Ho¤ly name,
Save and pre¤serve and shield us from the e¤vil,
Un¤til we stand be¤fore Thee with¤out blame.

The world and sin is ev¤er¤more op¤pos¤ing,
Our car¤nal mind is seek¤ing for a place,
Bind Thou the strong, be Thou our soul de¤fend¤er,
And give Thy grace to speed us in the race.

Help us to flee from self and all de¤file¤ment,
And cleave to Thee, our Coun¤sel¤lor and guide,
Thou art the Light and Life of our sal¤va¤tion,
In Thee a¤lone our hearts are sat¤is¤fied.

Our on¤ly source of good is found in Je¤sus–
Our joy in life, our hope be¤yond the grave,
Sweet to our hearts those gra¤cious words of com¤fort,
Sin¤ners it was, whom Je¤sus came to save.
