O Sav¤iour teach us how to pray
Ef¤fec¤tual fer¤vent¤ly and wise,
Prayer that will move the heart of God,
Such as His ear ¤will not de¤spise.

From hum¤ble hearts, sin¤cere and pure,
Cleansed in the Sav¤iour’s pre¤cious blood,
Sub¤dued and meek to bear His yoke,
And learn to serve ¤Him as we should.

So fool¤ish¤ly the sons of men
Rush mad¤ly on¤ward down to death,
Pur¤sue the fad¤ing joys of sin,
With fe¤v’rish haste ¤and bat¤ed breath.

O make us wise with heav’n¤ly skill
To search and seek o’er moun¤tains steep,
With hearts com¤pas¤sion¤ate and true
To find thy lost ¤and wan¤d’ring sheep.

In¤crease our faith and fill our hearts
With pure, un¤chang¤ing love and zeal,
Re¤spect our low¤ly heart¤felt prayers,
And give us now ¤Thy Spir¤it’s seal.

Thy lov¤ing kind¤ness we de¤sire,
’Tis bet¤ter far to us than life:
Our in¤ner man re¤newed, we face
The dead¤ly con¤¤flict and the strife.
