The world and all its might¤y force
Have set the bat¤tle in ar¤ray
To swal¤low up your time and strength,
Lest you should pray.

All flesh is sub¤tle and a¤lert,
They nev¤er need a hol¤i¤day,
So ac¤tive to cor¤rupt your heart,
Lest you should pray.

The cru¤el hosts of sin de¤ride,
The mar¤shalled powers of hell gain¤say,
U¤nit¤ed to per¤vert your mind,
Lest you should pray.

God’s own e¤lect, the hosts of heav’n
All with one might¤y voice now say,
Je¤ho¤vah reigns, the great “I AM.”
Re¤joice and pray.

Love paid the ran¤som with His blood,
Your soul is free: who can dis¤may?
He has all power in Heav’n and earth;
Cease not to pray.

His sev’n¤fold Spir¤it in¤ter¤cedes,
Let this your faint¤ing spir¤it say.
The Fa¤ther, Son and Ho¤ly Ghost
Ask you to pray.
